Junior High

The bridge between foundations and specialisation — where students discover their strengths and prepare for IGCSE with confidence.

The Bridge Years

Where Foundations Meet Specialisation

Junior High is where things get interesting. Students move from general learning to subject-specific teaching, begin to develop their own academic interests, and build the critical thinking skills they'll need for IGCSE and beyond.

Our Junior High programme is popular with families starting their homeschooling journey at this level, as well as those using us for tuition support in specific subjects. We introduce exam-style questions gradually, so when they hit IGCSE, it feels familiar — not frightening.

What Makes Junior High Different

Subject Specialists

Instead of one teacher covering everything, students now have different teachers for each subject — just like in a real secondary school. Each teacher is a specialist in their field, bringing depth and passion to every lesson.

Higher Expectations, Gradual Build

Homework increases, independent study is encouraged, and students learn to manage their time. We build these skills gradually over three years — we don't throw them in the deep end.

Exam Preparation Begins Early

From Year 8, students are introduced to IGCSE-style questions, mark schemes, and exam techniques. By the time they start IGCSE in Year 10, they already know what's expected.

Cambridge Checkpoint Tests

At the end of Year 9, students sit Cambridge Checkpoint tests in English, Maths, and Science. These are diagnostic — they show exactly where your child stands relative to international benchmarks, without the pressure of pass/fail grades. Results help us make informed decisions about IGCSE subject choices.

English & Literature
Literature analysis, advanced writing, comprehension, and spoken communication. Students engage with diverse texts — from Shakespeare to contemporary fiction — and develop their own voice as writers and speakers.
Mathematics
Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and probability — all building toward IGCSE readiness. Problem-solving and logical reasoning are woven into every topic so students understand the "why" behind the numbers.
Sciences — Biology, Chemistry & Physics
Taught as separate subjects from Year 7. Practical investigations, lab skills, and scientific method underpin every unit. Topics include cells & organisms, chemical reactions, forces & energy, and more — aligned with Cambridge Lower Secondary.
History, Geography & Social Studies
History: World events, source analysis, and essay writing. Geography: Physical and human geography with real-world case studies. Social Studies: Understanding societies, governance, and global citizenship.
French & Modern Languages
Grammar, conversation, and written expression. Students build practical communication skills while developing cultural awareness. Additional languages available upon request.
ICT, Business & Creative Subjects
ICT: Spreadsheets, presentations, introductory programming. Business Studies: Introductory economics and business concepts. Art, Music & PE: Creative expression, performance, and physical wellbeing — because Junior High is about developing the whole person.
